A Story of Recovery and Resilience
Share
After the difficult hospital confinement in December 2023, Manny’s road to recovery became another battle of patience, courage, and determination.
The healing process was long and far from easy. There were days filled with uncertainty, discomfort, and exhaustion. Simple things many people take for granted—walking comfortably, moving freely, sleeping peacefully—became daily challenges he had to overcome.
Yet step by step, Manny kept fighting.

Today, his progress is a testament to his resilience. He can now eat on his own, care for himself with minimal assistance, and even drive from home to the hospital for his treatments. More than that, he continues to pursue his passion for teaching, working full-time online in graduate school and inspiring students through his dedication.
But recovery is never a straight path.
He continues to face anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and moments of emotional struggle, including adjusting to physical changes such as leg discoloration that affected his confidence. Recently, he also had to overcome pneumonia—another reminder that the journey remains fragile.
Three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Manny continues dialysis.
And three times a week, he continues to choose life.
His story reminds us that strength is not always loud. Sometimes, it is found in showing up for treatment, pushing through pain, facing fears quietly, and continuing despite everything.
For patients like Manny, survival is not a one-time victory—it is a commitment renewed every single week.
